The second pair to drop in Nike’s Sketch to Shelf capsule, this “Schematic” iteration of the Air Max 1 puts all the raw design elements in the open for everyone to see. Paying tribute to Nike great, Tinker Hatfield, this 1:1 scale wearable model is a realisation of his most loved design prototype. Dressed entirely in white with black detailing throughout, this pair takes a more mathematical approach; with printed notes and measurements as opposed to the previous release’s handwritten style. The inclusion of contrast stitching reflects the work-in-progress feel, with each shoe wearing a different heel panel: the left wearing the brand’s typical Swoosh branding, while the right is signed and dated by Tinker. Finished with the iconic visible Air unit – initially inspired by a trip to the Pompidou Centre in Paris – and a clear outsole underfoot, the pair is completed with “SCHEMATIC, PROPERTY OF NIKE NOT FOR RESALE” printed to the interior; rounding off the over-arching prototype theme.
